Craig Gordon: Hearts goalkeeper not pushing for January move to bolster Scotland World Cup hopes

Craig Gordon has no intention of a move away from Hearts despite not making an appearance for the Scottish Premiership leaders this season.

The 43-year-old goalkeeper's only competitive action since returning from a shoulder injury has been for Scotland in their World Cup qualification double-header against Greece and Denmark in November.

It had been speculated that Gordon, currently second choice behind Alexander Schwolow, may seek a loan move away from Tynecastle Park to bolster his hopes of starting for the national team at this summer's World Cup.

"I've been training well. I feel like I'm one step away from getting an opportunity here," he told Your Site News.

"For me, it's just about making sure I'm as fit as possible, making sure I'm ready and if that chance comes around here that I can take it.

"I'm focused fully on trying to get on the team here and trying to help the club be successful."

On the possibility of leaving Hearts on loan this month, the former Sunderland and Celtic keeper added: "You can't say 100 per cent, definitely not.

"But at the moment, I'm more than happy to be helping the guys go out there every week and get the points on the board that keeps our challenge at the top end of the league."

Derek McInnes' side are currently three points clear of Rangers and six ahead of Celtic as they bid to be the first non-Old Firm team to win the league since Aberdeen in 1985.

While Gordon misses being out on the pitch, he is using his title-winning experience with Celtic to good use.

"You do get that little bit of jealousy when the boys are walking out there," he added.

"We're a good team, it's an enjoyable team to be part of, and going out there and getting the results.

"I would love to be out there helping them out, but I can do a few things behind the scenes as well to help the boys out, make sure that we're all pulling in the same direction and giving it our best shot."
